Position Overview:

KBH has a competitive presence in the legal market and is currently seeking a Legal Secretary to support two Partners and their team. The role will be based in the Dubai office, in the DIFC.

This vacancy requires candidates to have a mature approach and be able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines to support at a senior legal and administrative level. You will be considered an integral member of the team and therefore will be relied upon heavily for support, discretion, and professionalism at all times. There will be highly confidential information and you will be responsible for document control and collation, opening of files, continuous compliance, and monitoring, and client interaction, both in person and via email.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Practice Manager with general office processes such as client billing; client on-boarding; compliance matters including AML & KYC; HR and recruitment

  • General administrative support and working closely with the business support function to ensure office and Front of House (FOH) run smoothly

  • Provide secondary support in absence of other admin staff members, where applicable (e.g. Filing Assistant)

  • Operate the office switchboard and handle reception duties

  • Build strong relationships, develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of clients and matters

  • Provide administration support to Partners, Managers and Associates including PA support to Partners

  • Extensive diary management, using own initiative to manage email accounts and to develop and maintain systems to promote efficiency

  • Draft, review and format all matter-related correspondence, engagement letters, documents, presentations and spreadsheets

  • Document typing, analysis, proof reading, amending (including track changes) and formatting documents as required

  • Prepare meeting notes (including transcribing oral dictation if required), memos and legal documents as and when required

  • Prepare bundles of documents for court hearings or internal use
    Assisting lawyers and witnesses in Court

  • Oversee remote hearings which are conducted within the offices

  • Build strong relationships with business services teams and maintaining effective and efficient use of business support services

  • Ensure disbursements or any client related expense is added into Bill4Time
    Open new files on the system, preparation of client forms and collection of documents from clients

  • Ensure all activities and duties adhere to risk and compliance requirements

  • Arrange, attend and contribute to team meetings and events as required

  • Update and maintaining client contact database

  • Receive queries from clients and distributing them to relevant lawyers, liaising with clients and follow-ups

  • Enter, review and update time entries on Bill4Time for all fee earners as necessary

  • Manage and organise stationery inventory, and place order for office/pantry supplies as required

  • Manage courier services to ensure smooth service delivery

Requirements:

  • Fast, accurate touch typing skills with outstanding attention to detail

  • Proven ability and experience in preparing legal documentation

  • Experience working within a team, but equally comfortable working alone

  • Reliable yet flexible and able to work independently
    Previous experience of using MacBook is highly advantageous

  • Organised and efficient, able to work to tight deadlines

  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent telephone manner and client management skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure

Senior Associate Litigation Lawyer (DIFC, DUBAI)

Position Overview:

As a Senior Associate Litigation Lawyer, you will assume a pivotal role within our ranked legal team. Your extensive experience in High Court litigation and exemplary skills in drafting legal documents will be paramount as you lead and manage complex litigation matters. As a trusted advisor, you will provide strategic counsel, guide clients through intricate legal processes, and effectively represent them in the DIFC courts and arbitral disputes. Your exceptional analytical abilities and dedication to delivering exceptional legal services will further contribute to your success in this role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • High Court Litigation Expertise: Utilise your significant experience in High Court litigation to handle a diverse caseload of complex matters in the DIFC. Effectively manage cases from inception to resolution, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and adherence to court timelines, in a wide range of matters like property dispute, employment matters, shareholder disputes, media and sports disputes, insolvency, contractual and commercial disputes etc. Demonstrate experience in commercial, insurance and financial service law, the law of professional negligence in contentious matters.
  • Legal Document Drafting: Showcase your adeptness in drafting precise and compelling legal documents, including pleadings, witness statements, applications, instructions to counsel, witness statements, inter partes correspondence, contracts, and settlement agreements, maintaining the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Legal Research Proficiency: Employ your comprehensive knowledge of UK laws, regulations, and case precedents to conduct thorough legal research, supporting case preparation and building robust legal arguments.
  • Client Consultations: Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their unique needs and providing tailored legal strategies to achieve their objectives effectively. Arriving at practical and cost effective solutions by effectively forming a personnel relationship with clients.
  • Negotiations and Settlements: Employ your expertise in negotiations and alternative dispute resolution methods to secure favorable settlements for clients, while always pursuing their best interests.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration: Display leadership qualities as you mentor and support junior associates, fostering their professional development. Collaborate seamlessly with colleagues in the litigation team and across practice areas to deliver holistic legal solutions. Leading the team by identifying each team member potentials and supporting them as an when needed with regular and constructive feedback. Analysing and understanding business culture of competitors and clients to develop business opportunities, maintain existing clients and develop a network of business contacts. In addition, proactively identifying opportunities to introduce clients to different practice areas and departments.
  • Compliance and Regulations: Stay current with developments in UK legislation and court rules, ensuring full compliance and adherence to legal requirements throughout all proceedings.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • LLB (Bachelor of Laws) or equivalent law degree from a reputable UK institution.
  • Qualified and admitted as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales, with a demonstrated focus on High Court litigation.
  • Extensive 6 – 9 years of experience in handling complex High Court litigation cases within the UK jurisdiction.
  • Profound understanding of UK civil and commercial litigation procedures, from pre-trial applications, to disclosure, trial, and appeals.
  • Exceptional drafting skills, characterised by precision and persuasiveness in legal documents.
  • Superior analytical abilities, coupled with a strategic mindset to navigate intricate legal challenges successfully.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, reflecting your ability to articulate persuasive arguments both in and out of the courtroom.
  • Proficiency in utilising legal research tools and case management software specific to the UK legal system.

Internship Opportunities

Compensation and Benefits:

Intellectual Property and Work Product:

Any work, documents, or intellectual property produced by interns during their internship will be the property of KBH. Interns are expected to maintain the confidentiality of the firm’s clients and projects and will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement.

At the conclusion of the internship, interns will participate in an exit interview and evaluation process to discuss their experience, receive feedback, and provide suggestions for improvement.
