Background

Nathan is a Partner in the Dubai Office and leads the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice.

Nathan has 15 years’ experience advising and representing clients in commercial litigation and arbitration and has been based in the UAE since 2015. He acts for clients in complex commercial disputes with local, regional and international dimensions, across a wide range of sectors and industries.

Nathan is highly experienced in DIFC Courts litigation and has acted in a number of the leading cases before the DIFC Courts. His practice spans the full DIFC Courts system, from the Small Claims Tribunal to the Court of Appeal, with particular experience in complex commercial disputes, jurisdictional challenges and enforcement proceedings.

Nathan’s litigation practice also extends beyond the UAE, including advising and representing clients in proceedings before the English High Court and the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands.

Nathan has a substantial international arbitration practice, with experience in some of the longest-running and highest-value arbitrations in the region in recent years. He regularly acts in arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA and DIAC Rules, and has represented clients in proceedings administered by the SCC and PCA.

Nathan works closely with founders and growth-stage businesses across the UAE’s innovation ecosystem, advising startups, SMEs and scale-ups on commercial disputes, risk management and strategic contentious matters.

  • A UAE financial services firm in the defence of High Court proceedings brought by a former client under the Insolvency Act.
  • Shareholders of a major Saudi retail chain in High Court proceedings against the company for sums owed pursuant to an earn out.
  • The Financial Services Compensation Scheme in major High Court litigation arising from the collapse of Keydata Investment Services Limited.
  • West African Gas Pipeline Company Ltd in substantial Technology and Construction Court proceedings against its main onshore contractor, arising from the termination of a contract for the construction of an international gas pipeline.
